This weekend we took the time to tap into Neo-soul/R&B duo, “7,” (Deven Raval) and Aniya Teno, better known as 7Ten. Their new project “Bloom,” is a smooth compilation of rhythmic Jazz and R&B with a splash of urban Rap/Hip-Hop. Aniya Teno appears to be a sultry songbird crooning over new and old love, but as the EP progresses, Teno sleekly comes in with quick witted and direct Rap bars; The switch up is immaculate and seemingly intentional.
“When a fool fall in love in the right direction, brand new outlook, she relieve the tension. I could fall in love wit me too…”
lyrics written and performed by Aniya Teno
Bloom’s production consists of a number of live instruments perfectly blending with Teno’s vocals, which she uses as an instrument herself. 7Ten manages to break away from your typical music makers by staying true to the original form of music making, Live instrumentation. Live instrumentation is unequivocally the most innovative way to make music. A great deal of notable and historical song recordings and major hits were recorded using live bands, orchestras, choirs, and solo vocalists.
In an era where ‘studio recording’ is a common resort for mainstream and rising recording artists/producers. Recording live instrumentations has become a lost art form. It’s satisfying to hear 7Ten up keeping the “live,” sound while adding their own new age flavor.
“Bloom,” is the perfect EP to roll one up to.
One of those projects you can vibe to at home, while you’re settling in for the night or at a coffee shop open mic. When listening, I’d recommend starting with my favorite “Red Moon.” With it being one of the more passionate pieces on the EP, I must warn you, the intensity of the song can evoke some unexpected emotions. In other words, grab a tissue! But finishing up on a more up-tempo note with “Right Kind of Love,” will get you back movin and groovin.’
If you’re into the calm & cool sounds of Sonder, The Internet, T’Nah Apex and Thundercat; 7Ten is the perfect addition to your music catalog.
