’15 Drafts’ with Matt Haughey

Hello Matt! Thank you for speaking with me today!

 

You just released your new single! Congratulations! Will you tell us about it?

Thank you! My new single is called “15 Drafts” and it came out on Friday. It’s about the complicated feeling of falling in love with a friend. My producer and I started teasing the song on Tik Tok a few weeks ago, and people seemed to like it, so we decided to release it!

 

How does it feel to have the song out in the world?

It feels really great! The days following a release are always super fun. I also got to hear the song played on Train Tracks on SiriusXM The Pulse this weekend which was super cool.

 

What was the coolest or most surreal part of the creative process for it? 

I think the coolest part of this process for me was adding the bridge near the end. The song was mostly done, but I decided to add a bridge at the last moment. I’m super happy with how it all turned out! I usually don’t add parts to a song too long after I’ve already written it.

 

Do you feel like where you are from influences your music?

I wouldn’t say it’s too big of an influence. I’m from New Jersey and I loved growing up there, but to be honest my biggest musical influences are from all over the world.

 

What are you hoping listeners take away from the new song?

I guess most of all I just hope people enjoy listening to the song. That’s usually my first goal when I write / release a song. Also, I hope the people who relate to the song can find some solace in the fact that they’re not alone having these feelings. Having feelings for a friend can be super complicated and difficult, so hopefully this song can help some people feel a bit better.

 

What would you say is the most rewarding or exciting part of what you do?

The most rewarding part is definitely hearing from my friends and fans that they love the song. Every message and DM that I get really fuels me to make more music that people can connect to.

 

Any other upcoming projects you would like everyone to be on the lookout for?

I haven’t decided on my next single yet, but I have a few in the works that I’m super excited about!!
